Family, Values & Raising the Next Generation

Patara is a proud wife and mother who has called Abbotsford home for many years. Her daughter, Micah, was born at Abbotsford Regional Hospital & Cancer Centre, deepening Patara's connection to the community she loves and serves. Like many parents, Patara believes that raising a child is about more than providing for their needs today, it's about equipping them with the skills, confidence, character, and resilience they will need to thrive tomorrow. She believes it is a parent's responsibility to give their children the tools for survival and success so that when they are ready to step out into the world, they can do so with independence, compassion, and a strong sense of purpose. Watching Micah grow has reinforced Patara's belief that every child deserves to feel safe, included, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential. It is this same commitment to helping young people become the best versions of themselves that motivates her to serve as a School Trustee for Abbotsford's 20,000 students and their families.

Dedicated Community Leader

Patara's work has consistently centred on people and community impact. As a Senior Development Officer for Breakthrough T1D and previously with BC Cancer Foundation, she built strong relationships with families, stakeholders, and partners to secure funding for transformative programs. Her experience as a small business owner also informs her practical approach on fiscal management and accountability grounding her leadership in real-world understanding of budgets, operations, and responsible decision-making.

Strategic Governance & Institutional Leadership

Effective school board trustees require a strong understanding of governance, and Patara brings this through extensive leadership experience. As President of the Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce and a Director of Abbotsford-Matsqui Rotary Club, she developed expertise in strategic oversight, financial accountability, and policy development. Her volunteer involvement with the Ecole Centennial Elementary PAC further reflects her hands-on commitment to strengthening local schools and improving learning environments for students.

Extensive Experience in Advocacy & Public Policy

Patara brings a strong understanding of how government works across all levels from federal, provincial, and municipal, and she uses that experience to effectively champion the needs of Abbotsford students. Through her work in legislative support roles and successful community outreach initiatives, she has built meaningful connections across diverse communities and stakeholders. Her deep knowledge of government processes allows her to navigate complex systems with confidence and purpose, ensuring she can advocate effectively for teachers, students and local families.

Lifelong Commitment to Families

Patara brings both experience and compassion to her work in education. Having spent years in frontline roles supporting vulnerable citizens through life-skills programs and healthcare of initiatives, she understands the real challenges many families face. This hands-on background has shaped her approach to education – one that is grounded in dignity, inclusion, and a firm commitment to ensuring every child has the support and tools they need to thrive.

“I believe all 20,000 students in our district deserve an equal and inclusive education—where they feel supported, valued, and empowered to become the best version of themselves.”
